21 Weeks

We have another appointment on Thursday with Dr. Sellers to go over our ultrasound that we had with the specialist last week. I bet it will be a short appointment. I bought more clothes for Mamie at the other consignment thing Brit and I went to on Sunday. She is going to be so cute in these sweet clothes. I am loving some smocked dresses. It reminds me of what Mom use to dress us in. So I don't have much to tell today. Baby Center sent us our 21 week update yesterday. Hello, Sarah! Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well. >> Read more about this week Oh how could I almost forget. A friend from college took pictures of her tummy every couple of weeks and I thought it was so cool to see how much she grew. Here is my 15 week and 21 week belly :) 15 Weeks 21 Weeks

Introducing Mamie's Poppy Plates

As you all know, I am Mamie's mom, and Mamie was my first child. I was pregnant with her from October 2008 to June 25th, 2009 when she was born a sleeping angel (stillborn) two and a half weeks before her due date. Stillbirth and infant death are realities that too many parents face even today. Did you know that each year 1 in 115 babies delivered is stillborn? And 1 in every 102 newborns die before the age of 28 days old? Now, a year after losing Mamie, I have started Mamie's Poppy Plates, my organization providing keepsakes for parents who are not able to take their babies home from the hospital. Because handprints and footprints are something that we cherish as parents of children in Heaven or here on this earth, I wanted to find a beautiful way to preserve such a precious reminder of our babies. Your donation of $13 will provide a plate to bereaved families who are delivering at St. Vincent Hospital. Their baby’s birth stats, hand and footprints will be stampe...

Baby Burke- Please Pray

Taylor and I went in for our big ultrasound this morning. I am 18 weeks along now, so they were checking out our baby boy closely. They found 2 genetic markers that caused a red flag. One cyst on the brain and his kidneys are enlarged. We need lots of prayers right now. Prayers for these markers to disappear and for our baby boy to be healthy. We also need prayers for our sanity as we wait, hope and pray. We will go back for another ultrasound in 8 weeks (March 31). We were told not to look this up on the internet and would appreciate only positive comments on this situation. God is good and we are leaving it in His hands. Thanks for your prayers, Sarah

Gracie

We are so sad this week because our sweet Grace has passed away. We have spent 10 1/2 wonderful and exciting years with her. She was the best pup. We always called her our super model because of her skinny legs, lean body and she always watched what she ate :) Never in my life have I known a dog that turned their nose up to steak. I remember the day I got her. I was a sophomore in college. I had two wonderful roomates and we thought we needed to add to our little family on Garland Street. I was pre vet that semester and had been studying different breads of dogs. The weimaraner, I had decided, would be my next dog. She was the cutest pup, and I fell in love the moment I saw her. These past 10 1/2 years have been wonderful with her around. She wasn't the most snuggly dog but she loved her mama and would sometimes crawl up close and curl up in a little ball. She was our little deer. :) Taylor and I have been talking about all the funny things she used to do today. It ...
